The Metropolitan Museum of Art, or MET, is my favorite museum I've visited so far. Though Paris's Louvre is easily grander, I love that the MET shows a broader array of art from medieval to modern. I've had the opportunity to visit the museum on three occasions now, and I've always found new nooks and crannies to explore that I didn't on prior trips. I also appreciate that on each visit I've been able to walk in without waiting in a huge line. Something that you really can't avoid at the Louvre, even by using the secret entrances.
Heavenly Bodies
On our most recent visit, we arrived the day after the legendary MET Gala so we were some of the first to view the new special exhibition Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. As described on their website, the exhibition "features a dialogue between fashion and medieval art from The Met collection to examine fashion's ongoing engagement with the devotional practices and traditions of Catholicism." To put it simply, the exhibition was gorgeous, from the ornate clothing and jewelry to the music that perfectly encapsulated the grandeur of the art. If you have a chance to visit NYC between now and October 8th, I highly recommend a stop here to view this gorgeous exhibition and spend a few hours getting lost in the other fantastic wings.
These are absolutely breathtaking! Definitely on my bucket list to visit the Met now.
This is amazing. I always enjoy visiting costume exhibits and watching costume dramas. Then I get it in my head I can make jewelry and embellished accessories. I can't.
I love it when museums have awesome exhibits like this!! I've never been to NYC, but when I do someday we'll have to make sure to stop by the MET to check it out. I've only heard great things about it!
The MET is at the top of my list of places to go when I am in NYC this fall and now I am even more excited that this exhibit will still be there!
All these dresses are incredible and they embody the theme perfectly
What a gorgeous exibition! the ones with wings are my favourite!
What a pretty exhibit! I’ve never been to the met but I have been to the louvre...good to know the lines aren’t as crazy!
Well, THAT explains why the line was insane the day we tried to go to the Met a few weeks back. What an incredible exhibit! Thanks so much for sharing that!! The McQueen exhibit is one of the best things that's ever happened to me! Wish I'd been able to see this one.
OMG I love the MET and I'm OBSESSED with this collection!
Wow, what an incredible exhibition! Those pieces are a true work of art!
Wow, these are STUNNING! I especially liked the first one and the black piece. So beautiful and creative! xo, Brittany Nicole | http://www.theblistblog.com
What a fun exhibit to see! Hopefully someday I'll make it to NY and can visit the MET. You sold me on not having to wait in huge lines like at the Louvre.
Thank you for sharing photos of the exhibition! The pieces look so amazing. I adore a lot of them - lots of different styles but they work on theme perfectly!
What a fascinating exhibit. Would love to give it check it out.

What an incredible exhibit! I would love to go there and check it out.
This is so cool. I would :LOVE to go see this exhibit. I'm in NYS often but I never get a chance to do anything but work. Thanks for sharing!
Wow this is such an interesting way to display the gowns. There are so many different styles.
This looks like a very interesting place to explore. It's always a lot of fun visiting the museums. Such a neat experience!
I just went to the MET in January for the first time, and I'd love to get back to explore more of the museum. I think I might like it more than the Louvre, as well. This exhibit looks fascinating. I'm bummed it ends just a couple weeks prior to my next NYC trip. My sister lives in the city and is interested in fashion, so I'll share your post with her. At least I got to vicariously see this exhibit through your post. Thanks for sharing it!
I'm always in awe of the fashion at the Met Ball. I'm not too sure how I feel about the theme this year (in Chicago "Heavenly Bodies" is a strip club) but I still love seeing the gorgeous and wearable works of art!
